Remote control and shell
Take over a desktop, open a terminal, and manage files, all from the device page.
Remote control
Remote control on a machine's page opens a remote desktop, terminal and file browser in a new browser tab. On Linux machines it is a remote console. It is powered by MeshCentral, installed and managed by NeverLapse on your server: your techs never log in to it separately.
- Each session uses a time-limited link for that machine only (60 minutes by default, Settings › Remote control).
- The remote-support part of the agent (NeverLapse Remote Support, or your own name with the Branding add-on) is installed by the RMM agent on its own and removed with it.
- Managed machines need to reach your server on port 4433 for remote control.
Shell
The Shell tab opens a live terminal straight through the RMM agent, without remote support: PowerShell or cmd on Windows, bash on Linux. It runs as SYSTEM / root.
Every shell session is recorded: the session list on the Shell tab shows who, when and for how long, and Replay plays a session back.
Anyone who can see the machine can open a shell, so limit techs to the right sites (see Users, permissions and SSO).
Services and actions
Without a remote session you can start, stop and restart services, change their startup type (Windows services, systemd units, Docker containers), run scripts, update the agent and refresh the inventory, all from the device page with live progress.
