Sites and groups

Organise machines by customer (site) and by role (group), and work in one site at a time.

Sites are how you keep customers apart. Each site has its own machines, its own install key, its own alert thresholds and alert destinations, and (optionally) its own PSA customer number. Techs can be limited to the sites they look after.

Groups sit inside a site, for example Servers, Workstations or Front desk. Use them to organise the device list, apply templates and patch policies, and pick machines for scripts.

Working in one site

The site switcher at the top of the menu says Working in: All sites. Pick a site and the Dashboard, Computers, Alerts, Patching, Software, Templates and Groups pages all show only that site, until you switch back. Your choice is remembered in your browser.

Sites › All sites shows every site as a card: machines, how many are offline, open alerts, how many Windows machines have a patch policy, and restarts pending. With many sites, switch to List (a sortable table with a filter box; the arrow on a row folds out that site's computers). Your choice of Cards or List is remembered.

Open (or the site's name) takes you to the site page: health tiles at the top and tabs for its Computers, UniFi consoles, Alerts and Patching. Opening it also switches you to working in that site.

Adding a site

Admins use Sites › Add a site: give it a name and, if you use a PSA, the customer number your PSA knows it by (it is sent with that site's alerts). The site then has its own install code and Linux command on Add a computer.

Open a site's settings (the gear on its card, or Sites › Settings for the site you're working in) to:

  • change its name and PSA customer number;
  • set default thresholds for its machines (memory %, minutes, disk %, how long a service may be down) that differ from your global defaults;
  • pick its monitoring templates and see which users can access it;
  • replace its install key (machines already installed keep working; new installs need the new install code);
  • delete it (only when it has no machines).

Groups

On the Groups page (for the site you're working in) add, rename and delete groups and pick each group's monitoring templates. To put machines in a group, select them on the device list and use Move to…, or change it on the machine's Settings tab. Moving a machine to another site clears its group and its own templates.

The device list

With All sites selected, the device list has a section per site with its counts (machines, offline, alerts). Fold a site away with the arrow next to its name (remembered in your browser), or click the name to work in that site. Inside a site, machines are listed by group with problems first. Select machines to move them, update their agent or remove them in one go.
