Scripts
Keep a script library and run scripts on one or many machines with live results.
Run PowerShell, cmd, bash or sh scripts on one machine or many at once, and see each machine's exit code and output as it finishes. Scripts run as SYSTEM (Windows) or root (Linux), with a time limit you set.
The library
The Scripts page holds your saved scripts:
- Shared library scripts can be used for every site. Only admins change them.
- Site scripts belong to one site and can be shared with other sites. Only the owning site's techs change them.
- Techs may run marks a script that non-admin techs are allowed to run. Others are admin-only.
Each script has a name, a description, the shell, the script text and a time limit. A script for PowerShell or cmd runs on Windows machines only; bash or sh on Linux only.
Running a script
Press Run on a script (or use a machine's Scripts tab). Pick the site, then select machines: whole groups at once or single machines. Each machine shows its progress live: waiting, running, exit code and output. Offline machines get the script when they come back, within a short time.
Admins can also run a one-off script: typed straight in, not saved.
Several scripts on several computers
On Computers, select the machines, choose Run scripts and select every script you want in the box that opens. Each script goes to the selected machines of its platform (PowerShell and cmd to Windows, bash and sh to Linux) that you're allowed to run it on, and one results page shows all of them live.
Every run is kept with its output: a computer's Overview shows its last 5 scripts with their status, its Scripts tab has the full history, and the Activity log records who ran what.
Tips
- Exit code 0 means success; anything else is shown as failed.
- Output is kept up to the last 256 KB per machine.
- Long-running jobs: raise the time limit rather than running things in the background, so you see the result.
